Turns out, shampoo is bad for your hair. I learned this on Sunday while watching Bones...and am now fully immersed in an experiment with my scalp and follicles. Simple glycerine or castille soap will do, followed by a slightly acidic rinse (simple vinegar or lemon juice in water work wonders to balance the pH and get rid of that rough hair feeling). And voila! You're good to go - no detergents, no irritated eyes, no expensive shampoos, no sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate. Easy peasy.
